Sen. Carper releases statement on Orlando shooting

Following the Orlando nightclub shooting that left 50 dead and 53 injured, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released a statement.

Carper, a top Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said:

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones in this senseless act of violence in Orlando. This horrific attack reminds us that we must remain vigilant here at home against threats of terrorism. It is critical that federal, state and local law enforcement officials work together to get to the bottom of this attack. I will continue to monitor this situation closely as we learn more information. For now, I am grateful for the first responders who quickly jumped to action to help and save others last night, and will continue to grieve for all the victims of this heinous attack.”

Officials say this shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

It is reportedly the most deadly shooting in U.S. history.
