Salisbury launches “Summer Youth Employment Program”

The city of Salisbury launched it’s new summer youth employment program on Wednesday. Local leaders gathered to introduce the 10 high school students who will be on city payroll for the summer doing various jobs across Salisbury.
The jobs range from Public Works, to even working at the zoo. $55,000 in funding was approved in the budget by City Council for the program to help pay the students for their new summer gig. They will also be taught life skills to help them succeed like budgeting their money.
Mayor Jake Day says “not everybody in our community has the skill sets they need to succeed and thrive here, and we’ve got to show our young people that they can thrive in this place and that we are going to stand behind them we are going to give them everything they need to succeed.”
Organizations involved in the program include the Mayor, Greater Salisbury Committee, Junior Achievement of the Eastern shore, Salisbury Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Salisbury Zoo.
