Rainfall prompts water quality advisory for Delaware beaches

Due to the increased rainfall we’ve experienced here on Delmarva over the past few weeks, a water quality advisory was issued for both Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach. DNREC officials announced the advisory Wednesday and was lifted about 24 hours later.

The ocean water is regularly tested for threatening levels of bacteria, and the advisories are broadcast when high levels are found. Officials say the Delaware beaches often experience high levels of bacteria, but it does not pose severe health threats to swimmers. The beaches were not closed and the bacteria levels are expected to continue to decrease.
