Prosecutor suspended over courthouse gun prank

(AP) – A veteran prosecutor involved in a prank in which a court bailiff pointed his gun at another prosecutor has been suspended for 30 days by the Delaware Supreme Court.

According to records cited in Friday’s order, Adam Gelof and another Sussex County prosecutor, John Donahue IV, liked to kid each other to relieve stress. In February 2015, Donahue brought several hard-boiled eggs into a room where prosecutors were gathered, knowing Gelof had an aversion to the smell.

In retaliation, Gelof persuaded a bailiff to enter the room with his gun drawn and order Donahue to keep the eggs away.

But a police detective who was sitting behind the door and not aware of the prank saw the bailiff’s gun and began reaching for his own weapon before people started laughing.
