PRMC provides babysitting safety tips

With kids getting out of school for the summer, many of them will fall under the care of a babysitter.
Carol Moore, a safe- sitter instructor at Peninsula Regional Medical Center advices parents that when they’re hiring a babysitter, start with age.
They must be at least thirteen- years- old to legally watch children in the state of Maryland. Also, check references, inquire about their CPR knowledge and overall experience with children. On the flip side, sitters should be checking out the families as well.
Moore says, “Make a preliminary visit to a person’s house, get to know the children before the first time you ever stay with them. Ask them where the exits are and where emergency phone numbers may be.”
PRMC is holding four safe-sitter classes for men and women ages eleven to fourteen this summer. There is a fee, but scholarships are available based on need.
