Ocean City union petitions for arbitration

A firefighter’s union in Ocean City is hoping to gather enough petition signatures to put a measure on the ballot this November.
It would allow voters to decide whether labor disputes for fire and EMS personnel would be directed to a neutral arbitrator, as opposed to the Ocean City Council.
Local 4269 is collecting signatures of qualified Ocean City voters who support having the amendment on the ballot this November.
We’re told 20 percent of qualified voters need to sign the petition in order for the measure to be on the ballot.
47ABC reached out to the city for a comment Wednesday afternoon. We have not received an official comment as of 7 p.m. Wednesday.
