New water park slides ready for 4th of July weekend

Killens Pond State Park has gotten what officials are calling its largest structure improvement.
Four water slides were unveiled Wednesday at the 19 year old Felton park.
The three-million dollar project includes two spiral slides and two speed slides. Standing at 54 feet tall each, they’re almost twice as high as the ones they replaced, according to park officials.
Ray Bivens, director of Delaware State Parks, says 75 percent of park visitors are from the state. The rest come from out of state.
“We think this is really going to rejuvenate the water park,” he says. “There really wasn’t a whole lot for the 11 to 15 year old crowd, so this is something that’s exciting, you can see from some of the adults. They’re thrilled to go up there.”
Bivens says the four slides are phase one of a five-phase plan for park enhancements.
He says the second phase will likely be a splash park for the younger visitors; however, a timeline for construction is not known yet.
