New Md. licenses and ID cards launched

Marylanders will soon their hands on the new driver’s licenses and identification cards.

The new cards, available Monday, will feature multiple layers of security. This in an effort to help prevent identity theft and fraud. Some of the new features include a poly-carbonate card body, which would make the card more durable overall. It also includes raised prints, which make it more harder to tamper.

Debra Taylor, branch manager at the MVA in Salisbury, says the last time cards were revamped were in 2003.

“The most secure part that’s going to be different for MVA is that we’re mailing all of our documents out to the customer so that we know that they’re Maryland residents and that they have a Maryland address,” says Taylor.

Another new feature is for veterans. They can now have the “veteran” designation appear on the front of their license or I.D. card.
