New facility houses Boy & Girls Club, recreation center

(AP) – A new facility has opened in Dover that will house a recreation center and a Boys & Girls Club.

Local news outlets report that the Kent County Levy Court and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dover opened the facility Wednesday after years of planning.

President and CEO of the state’s Boys & Girls Clubs George Krupanski says the county contributed about $7 million to the project, while the nonprofit youth club contributed $5 million.

The recreation center side of the facility features a 30,000-square-foot gymnasium for sports including basketball and volleyball. The 7,000-sqaure-foot Boys & Girls Club side features rooms for day care and after-school programs.

The county and the nonprofit reached a shared-use agreement in 2012 that will allow both sides to use the other’s facilities.
