National Aquarium release rehabilitated turtles

The wet weather outside on Thursday didn’t seem to bother some rehabilitated turtles down at Assateague Island. They were already headed to the water.

The National Aquarium released two young rehabilitated green sea turtles along with ten rehabbed Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium and National Marine Life Center.

The turtles were brought to the aquarium with a number of different issues like low body temperature, broken ribs, torn lungs, blood infections and kidney problems.

Jennifer Dittmar says, “We make sure that they can catch live food, be weary of predators, and you know of each other really and navigate against currents. We don’t just take a turtle and just throw it out there without evaluating it’s behavior first.”
