Nanticoke Road in Salisbury closed for emergency pipe repair

A busy roadway in Salisbury has temporarily been closed, after Tuesday’s storms apparently damaged a drain.

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration says they have shut down a section of Nanticoke Road – MD 349, while they investigate possible drain pipe damage following Tuesday’s heavy rains. The affected portion of the roadway is between Oliver Drive and Rockawalkin Road.

Officials say the pipe that appears to be compromised connects Rockawalkin Creek with a pond on the north side of Nanticoke Road. Engineers are apparently evaluating the pipe and surrounding area, including a nearby earthen dam, to determine what repairs may be needed before the road can be reopened.

SHA Officials say the closure is expected to last through the Forth of July holiday. Motorists should use Rockawalkin Road and Levin Dashiell Road as detour routes, along with Crooked Oak Lane.
