Maryland still looking into payroll issue

The state of Maryland is still trying to sort out the payroll error that appears to have resulted in an estimated 13,000 state employees being underpaid by as much as $30 per day for two decades.

Union leaders met with the state last week, but said the state was unable to tell them who has been affected, how much money employees are owed and when they can expect to see that money.
Union leaders say what’s more troubling is that these payroll errors may not be fixed yet.

“It sounds like these payroll errors are still occurring with current active employees, with pay they’re due to earn (Wednesday) in paychecks on the 29th,” said Jeff Pittman, Communications Director for AFSCME Maryland.

Unions are asking employees to go over their paychecks closely keeping an eye out for any discrepancies.
The state realized the payroll errors when they switched to a computerized payroll system this spring.

In a written statement Hogan’s office said that “this issue cannot be swept under the rug and that they are committed to working with state employees to make this right”.

Union leaders tell 47 ABC that they plan to meet with the state again in the coming weeks.
