Low primary election voter turn-out in Accomack Co.

Accomack County, along with several other localities are represented by the second congressional seat. Scott Taylor took more than fifty-three percent of the vote in Accomack County during the GOP congressional primary.

Officials say turnout was extremely low at the polls our crew visited on Tuesday. At 4:15 p.m. the Oak Hall voting precinct had 36 voters of the more than 2,600 registered.

The Chincoteague precinct had 111 voters out of more than 2,500 registered. Officials say that’s actually normal for a primary.

However, our crew did meet one voter who explained what she’s hoping to see from whoever becomes the next congressman.

Connie Malloy says, “I hope they look out for the island. We’re small compared to Norfolk, Virginia Beach, but Scott Rigell was fabulous and Scott looked out for us. He was here.”

Following this election, the Oak Hall precinct which is at Arcadia High School will be permanently moving to the New Church Fire House.
