Locals react to Hillary Clinton’s presumed presidential nomination

On the eve of Tuesday’s California and New Jersey primaries, and contests in four other states, the Associated Press announced former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton clinched the number of delegates needed for the presidential nomination.

Chad Lingenfelder, the vice-chair of the Sussex County Democratic Committee says, “Scientifically yes they can make that calculation. But you know from a voting local, I mean I think maybe that should have waited until afterwards.”

The premature news wasn’t well received by Senator Bernie Sanders and many others. Sanders is pledging to fight until the end.

The AP used their survey of superdelegates and count of pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses to conclude Clinton as the presumed nominee. Even though Lingenfelder is supporting Clinton, he wants to make it clear every vote still counts moving forward.

He goes on, “The convention is there for a reason, to say Delaware casts it’s ballots for Hillary and so and so cast its ballots for Bernie, so you get to that final number.”

Washington D.C. closes the primary calendar on June 14th. However, if all goes as “pledged,” Hillary Clinton will be first woman in U.S. history to lead a major American political party into a general election. She’ll be shattering a glass ceiling upheld for centuries.

Destiny Martinez says, “I’m not voting for Hillary, but I think because she’s a woman and because this is the first time in all presidencies, I think it’s great.”

Susan Boving says, “It’s about time. You realize that we’ve had women running for president since the late eighteen hundreds.”

Hillary Clinton will formally accept her party’s nomination this summer at the national convention in Philadelphia. The convention is set for July 25th.
