Local priest weighs in on pope statements

On Sunday, during a flight back from a pilgrimage, Pope Francis, said Christians owe the LGBT community and other groups the church has alienated an apology. This came as a response to a question from the press of whether Christians bear some blame for hatred towards the LGBT community, specifically after the Orlando massacre at a gay nigh club. 47 ABC spoke to a local Catholic priest to weigh in on this matter.

Father Chris LaBarge, from St. Francis de Sales Parish says, “Yes we do owe them an apology. That’s the way this particular pope has always been he treats people as people and recognizes each one of them as an image of god.”

Father Chris tells us that after this statement by the pope, he hopes more people will feel welcomed by Catholic churches.
