Jun. 17 – Insulin Pumps Open House

If you’re tired of being controlled by daily insulin injections, an insulin pump may be the answer. After all, using an insulin pump has been shown to help adults and children as young as 2 years old better control their blood sugar.
Insulin pump therapy allows greater freedom and control. A pump can mean:
· Flexible eating-insulin is matched to the food eaten, rather than planning meals around insulin intake
· Sleeping late-no more getting up early for injections or meals, or worrying about the high blood sugar in the morning, known as the dawn phenomenon
· Living spontaneously-restaurants, get-togethers or unexpected activities don’t throw off control
Insulin pump therapy has been shown to improve blood sugar control over multiple daily injections-especially for people with higher A1C levels.
Of course, even with an insulin pump, you have to be prepared. Pumping doesn’t mean you can quit testing blood glucose or stop eating healthy meals, but it can provide more power and flexibility in your life.
On Wednesday June 22nd from 4-7 PM, Apple Diabetes Center will host an “Open House” for those looking for more information regarding the choice of using an Insulin Pump vs. multiple daily doses of insulin. The use of new technology in the field of insulin pumps and related equipment has increased dramatically in the past 2 years, including a pump that requires no tubing to deliver insulin. If you use multiple injections of insulin per day, regardless if you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, you may want to take advantage of this information session. Most insurance companies now cover the bulk of the cost of the pumps.
