Indians Fall In Title Game Again

The Indian River girls soccer team saw their great season come to an end in the state championship game for the second straight year, as they fell to Caravel 2-0. The Indians gave up a goal in the games first 30 seconds, and were never able to find the back of the net after playing from behind the rest of the way.

The Buccaneers would start off with the ball, streak up the left side when Sierra Frey found herself open at the top of the box, and fired a shot to the top left corner of the far post for a quick score. Indian River then would quickly settle in as the game became much more back and forth. Brooke Beam would take a couple free position shots, but was unable to put the right foot on it as they never found the back of the net. Caravel’s physicality would dictate the pace and tempo of play throughout the first half. The Buccaneers are a much bigger and stronger team, while the Indians were more skill and relied on touch. IR would head to the break down by a goal, and would try and fight their way back in the second half. They would generate a couple more good opportunities as Madison Hogsten would have a couple run outs, along with Natalie Herrera, but neither were able to get off very clean shots. As time began to wain, the physical nature of the game picked up as both teams began pressing. Eventually the Bucs would draw a throw in from the left side, that would work its way across the box where Summer Stewert was able to put it away.

The Indians would fall short in the title game, but it didn’t stop the Indians from completing a historic season. IR made it to the title game for only the second time in program history, the first being the year before. They graduate a well decorated, accomplished and impressive class, including Beam who was the programs first Gatorade Player of the Year. The programs returns plenty of talent from this years team, but will surely miss the leadership that moves on.
