Hearn Building starts phase two of reconstruction

After the partial collapse of the Hearn Building in Cambridge back in October, the city and county have been working to get it back up. On Monday, 47 ABC spoke to Dorchester County Council President, Ricky Travers, who tells us phase one of this project has been completed. Phase one included the stabilization of the front part of the building. He tells us approximately  $550,000 in grant money went into phase one of the project. Travers says the county is now moving onto phase two which is stabilizing the side walls and removing the debris from inside the building. County officials tell us they are in the process of applying for $450,000 in grants to complete phase two.

“We are moving for getting that building in a habitable state,” says Travers.

Travers tell us phase three of the project will be placing a new roof on the building. Officials tell us no timeline has been set on when the building will be completely restored.
