Funding needed to support puppy with broken legs

The Baywater Animal Rescue in Cambridge is asking for the public’s help covering medical costs for an 11 month old Yorkie pup named Dutchie. Dutchie suffered two broken front legs while in the care of someone other than its owner, details beyond that have not been disclosed.

On Thursday evening the pup was dropped off at the shelter by its owner who said he simply couldn’t afford the medical costs to fix Dutchies legs. Vets concluded that Dutchie would need orthopedic surgery and estimates for the procedure topped out at $7,000.

47 ABC reached out to the shelter and they tell us that on Friday morning they contacted several vets and finally got in touch with Doctor John Dykstra at Eastern Shore Veterinary Hospital in Laurel, Delaware and he agreed to do the surgery.

47 ABC spoke with Animal Care Technician Tyler Edgar and he says, “Today (Friday) he’s having the surgery that he needs to get his movement back in his legs. We can’t do it without the support of the community and just overall the support has been great.”

The animal shelter is paying for the cost of the surgery and will use all funds they receive through the go fund me page to pay it off. If you would like to help contribute to Dutchie, you can do so by visiting his go fund me page which is, https://www.gofundme.com/28owedg
