Firefly brings in heavy traffic to Dover

Music fans are descending to Dover for the fifth edition of the Firefly Music Festival.
With the thousands of festivals goers coming in and out of Dover, officials say expect slower traffic through the next three days in the area.

Gene Donaldson is Deldot’s Transportation Management Center Operations Manager. He says because some folks have day passes for the festival and others have passes for the whole weekend, it’s tough to say exactly when traffic will be at its peak and lowest points.

He says so far things have run smoothly other than some minor accidents on Route 13. He couldn’t confirm whether those incidents involved festival goers. Donaldson advises anyone not going to Firefly to avoid Route 13 if possible.

Donaldson continues, “If you’re going north bound, Route 1 isn’t an issue. Depending on when you’re traveling south, the other issue you bring in is beach traffic now. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be beach traffic.”

Donaldson also recommends drivers this weekend download the Deldot app.
It’s free and gives you the latest traffic alerts.
