Fire breaks out in Delmar apartment building, four families displaced

Four families have been displaced, after an apartment building fire in Delmar.

The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal says the fire was discovered by an occupant of the East Elizabeth Street building, around 7:45 AM on Thursday. Officials say 30 firefighters from the Delmar Fire Department responded to the scene of the three story structure, and had the flames under control in 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Investigators say the fire started in the utility room of the building, but that the cause is undetermined. Damages are apparently estimated to total $60,000.

Officials say four families were displaced by the fire, and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
