Brooks Paces North Past South In Bayside All-Star

The Bayside North topped the Bayside South in the annual Senior All-Star game 8-1 Monday afternoon. The North would grab an early lead, then get a couple RBI base knocks from Colonel Richardson’s Jazmine Brooks and a strong start from Cambridge SD’s Paige Bleyer on the bump to get the win.
It wouldn’t take very long for the North to make themselves right at home as they would get a 2 RBI double from Colonel Richardson’s Jayna Turner that scored her former teammate Brooks, as well as North Caroline’s Mackenzie Short. Shortly after that, Kent County’s Alyssa Kendall came up with a bloop RBI single to right that scored North Dorchester’s Autumn Hassler. Mardela’s Amber Lovelace would settle down from there and get out of the inning.
Cambridge’s Bleyer would get the start for the North, and she was dealing early. It would take til the top of the 3rd before the games next run, which came off a RBI single from Brooks that scored Cambridge SD’s Karli Lewis. The South then nearly got a run back as they sent a bloop single towards second, but St. Michaels Chase Browning was able to track it down from short and make the out.
The North’s offense continued to have a groove as Brooks was back at the dish in the 6th, and turned on a pitch to center for a 2 RBI single, scoring Cambridge’s Kaylie Seabrease and Kent County’s Julia Blackburn. Then Kent County’s Alyssa Kendall would add to her strong day, as she ripped a 2 RBI single to score Hassler and Short.
The South were finally able to get their offense going in the bottom of the 7th after drawing a hit by pitch, followed by a walk to get runners on 1st and 2nd. After a pass ball advanced the runners, the North would force a strike out to get one down. With the bases loaded after Pocomoke’s McKenzie Beachump drew a walk, Washington’s Laura Malendoski would hit a comeback to the pitcher. Blackburn would fire home for the force out, but the throw to 1st was off the line and allowed Mardela’s Maddy Catlin to score. But the North would force a ground out to short short the next time, and Brooks would field it for the final put out.
Colonel Richardson’s Jazmine Brooks would be named the MVP for the North, while Mardela’s Baylee Littletown would be named the Souths MVP.
