Bringing awareness to abuse of the elderly

Wednesday is world elder abuse awareness day. A day held to recognize the risk the elderly pose for themselves, especially as they become more dependent on others. The National Council on Aging says about 1 in every 10 adults age 60+ have experienced some sort of abuse.
While Physical and verbal abuse happen, 47ABC is told by a representative at Delmarva Community Services that financial exploitation and neglect are more common especially for elders who are no longer independent.
Elders who have been abused have a 300% higher risk of death when compared to those who have not been mistreated. Those who may think they are being neglected or know someone who is being abused should contact their local authorities.
