Apartment complex employee charged with theft

Members of the Milford Police Criminal Division say they have arrested Tashana Smith, 35, of Smyrna on May 24, in connection to an Internal Theft investigation at the Cascades Development management office.

Police say during her time of employment, she advised tenants to proved her with blank money orders to pay rent, and that she would fill the money orders out for them. Investigators say instead of cashing them for tenants’ rent, she would make them out to herself, cash them and keep the money.

According to police, Smith obtained over $8,800.00 from May of 2015 to December of 2015.

Smith was charged with Felony Theft $1,500.00 or Greater, four counts of second-degree Forgery and Falsifying Business Records. She was arraigned and released on $11,000 bond.
