Animal official outlines dangers of leaving pets in hot cars

Now that the weather is heating up, lots of people take their pets out for a ride in the car. Local animal groups say that’s fine, but leaving them in the vehicle is very dangerous.

After just ten minutes without air conditions, 70 degrees outside brings the inside of a care to 90 degrees. If the temperature climbs to 90 degrees outside, the interior of the vehicle can reach 109 degrees.

Aaron Balsamo, the executive director of the Wicomico County Humane Society says, “The onset of heat stress and heat stroke and heat fatigue can all set in very very quickly. Those are things that have long term affects on your pets.”

Being left in a hot car can result in the death of pet as well.
