Wet spring expected to lead to heavier holiday traffic

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to summer, and according to AAA, this holiday about 814,000 Marylanders will be hitting the road. That’s the second straight year over 800,000 and the first time in over a decade that 814,000 would be reached.

The increased travel is expected due to the recent weather giving people cabin fever.  For many, the cure to the fever,  will be going to the beach.  Like Ocean City, where 47ABC caught up with some folks who were enjoying the sun before the crowd rolls in.

A Wisconsin man, Ric Johnson, and his family were in town and are leaving on Friday.  He says they’ll take great joy in riding the other way as other cars roll into town.  Ali Sills of Richmond, Va. took his family to Ocean City for a getaway, and he tells 47ABC “the warm weather is just coming around so it’s a great opportunity to come down here so I’m not going to be here for it.”

According to AAA, 90% of all travelers this upcoming weekend are expected to make their journey’s by car.
