Vikings Have Hearts Broken On Senior Night

The Cape Henlopen boys lacrosse team had different plans on how they wanted their senior night to end when they took on Wilmington Friends on Tuesday night. And late in regulation, it looked like they were going to have the reason to celebrate they hoped.
But the Quakers had other plans.
Wilmington Friends scored with 6 seconds left in regulation to force overtime before eventually getting the game winning strike in double overtime by Andrew Jaworski. The loss drops the Vikings to 8-5 on the year.
The Vikings would start ice cold from the field to open the game. The Quakers would get scores from River Harper and Daniel Manly as they quickly opened up a 4-1 lead by the second quarter. But the Vikings would make their move there. They got a score from a break away by Evan Gehman, before getting another one from William Ott to cut the deficit to one at the break. Then in the third quarter, Robert Neall would score to tie the match up. The Quakers would take the lead just before the buzzer going into the 4th, but the Vikings were ready in the 4th. They would get back to back goals from Gehman at the 5 and 3 minute marks to give the home team a 6-5 lead. It looked like they were going to have their win on senior night.
But 3 minutes was a lot of time, and proved to be too much to give the Quakers. On a scrambling play, they would eventually get the ball into the crease where Eric Pincus would score with 6 seconds left to tie up the match, and send us to overtime.
There in the first OT, the teams would be exchanging possessions with neither team being able to find the back of the net. The Vikings had a great opportunity to win it off a shot from Gehman, but the Quakers keeper was able to stop it, and then found the ball underneath him, less than 2 inches from the win. Wilmington Friends would counter attack and ended up on the rough end of a couple no-calls as time wore down. The teams would head to a second overtime, where the Quakers would win the face off, and promptly set up Jaworski for the game winning goal.
Both teams now await the state tournament draw.
