Vikings Fall To St. Mark’s In Quarterfinals

The Cape Henlopen run back to the DIAA State Championship game came up a little short this year, as the Vikings fell to top seeded St. Mark’s 12-6 in the State Quarterfinals. The Vikings fell behind early, and while their bats would get hot, couldn’t slow down the Spartans lineup to get back in the game.
The Spartans would strike first off a RBI single from Andrew Reich, who would then later score off a pass ball to make it 2-0. Cape would fire right back, as Zach Gelof would stroke a pitch to right for a 2 RBI single, scoring Zach Dale and Drew Mulcahy. The Spartans would blow the game open with a big frame in the bottom of the 2nd though. After a couple bases loaded walks, Matthew Theodorakis would turn on a pitch for a 2 RBI single as their lead swelled to 8-2. The Vikings continued to battle and would get a 2 RBI double down the 3rd base line from Austin Elliott. But Cape just could not slow down St. Marks bats as they went on to score 4 more runs to pull out the win.
