UPDATE: Harcum sentenced for Mardela watermelon field death

A Mardela Springs man will spend a decade behind bars, following a conviction of manslaughter.

On Friday, a Judge sentenced William Harcum III to the maximum penalty of ten years, for the death of his uncle, 62-year-old Lee Harcum, back in July 2015.

In March, William Harcum was convicted of manslaughter, but found not guilty of first and second degree murder charges.

During the trial it was revealed that in the incident, Lee Harcum dropped a watermelon on William, in the family’s Mardela Spring watermelon field. William apparently blacked out, but when he awoke, he drove off before finding, and beating Lee Harcum with a tractor pin, killing him. During testimony, William said that he never intended on killing Lee.
