UPDATE: Cause of Salisbury apartment building fire under investigation

A fire on Collins Street in Salisbury forced one family to evacuate, including infants. Fire crews were dispatched shortly before midnight on Thursday, to the 500 block of Collins Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters faced a blaze that was protruding from the front door of the complex. The building is broken into 3 apartments according to officials, but only one of the apartments was burnt. 47ABC spoke to Dieufaite Tanis, a tenant on the side that was burned who said “I don’t know what happened exactly. I was asleep upstairs and when I was sleeping my wife was telling me there’s a fire, and then when i tried to go out this door, the fire started on the front door.”
He went on to say “I had a baby 3 days ago, on Sunday.” That baby had to apparently be thrown out the second story window into waiting arms, according to Tanis. He adds that two other babies, both under 2-years-old, were also home during the blaze.
Assistant Chief of Salisbury Fire Dept. James Gladwell tells 47ABC one infant was transported to PRMC for smoke inhalation, but everyone made it out of the residence.
Tanis tells 47ABC “I think somebody got a problem with me, somebody tried to kill me and my family.” The State Fire Marshal has not confirmed a cause for the fire, but the bulk of the blaze was at the front door according to Gladwell, where there is no apparent electrical wiring.
The blazed reportedly caused an estimated $8,000 in damages. No injuries were reported. The fire started inside of the front door, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal. The cause remains under investigation at this time.
The American Red Cross of Delmarva says they are assisting the family of five who was displaced following the incident.
