Two arrested after reported pursuit and standoff in Smyrna

Tony Cobb, 31, and James Dobbins, 28, both of Dover, Del.

Two Dover men are in custody, after Police say one was found to be driving a stolen car, and the second was involved in a stand off with authorities in Smyrna.

Dover Police say on Wednesday morning, around 6:15 AM, Officers from the Dover Police Department and US Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force tried to speak with 28-year-old James Dobbins, of Dover, at a home on Kathleen Drive, in Smryna. Police say the reason for their visit was Dobbins had multiple arrest warrants from Dover and Camden jurisdictions, as well as a violation of probation and escape – absconder from home confinement, from Delaware Probation and Parole.

Before contacting Dobbins, Officers say they noticed a white Cadillac leave the home. The car had apparently been reported as stolen, in Dover. Police apparently attempted to stop the car, and after a short vehicle and foot pursuit, were able to arrest 31-year-old Tony Cobb, of Dover.

Officer say they then made their way back to the Kathleen Drive home, and tried to speak with Dobbins, who refused to come outside. The Delaware State Police Special Operations Team reportedly responded to assist, and Dobbins apparently surrendered a short time later, without incident.

After his arrest, Cobb was charged with resisting arrest, failure to stop on command, theft of motor vehicle, and multiple traffic violations. Dobbins was charged with 3 counts of theft of motor vehicle, conspiracy second degree, attempted motor vehicle theft, violation of probation, and escape. Bond information for either suspect, was not immediately available.

The Dover Police Department says they would like to thank the Smyrna Police Department, Delaware State Police Department, and the US Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in this incident.
