Tai Chi workshop kicks off in Salisbury

Some may not know, but the U.S. headquarters for the World Taiji Boxing Association is right here on Delmarva, in Salisbury.
Since they’re hosting the association’s chief instructor, who traveled all the way from the United Kingdom to be here, they’re taking the time to debunk a workout they believe has been labeled as a an “old person’s exercise.”
Eli Montaigue, the chief instructor, says the ancient Chinese Martial Art promotes health, wellness, strength, and balance.
However, he says there’s also explosive power, reflexive action, and even deadly strikes. He believes when the exercise moved west to countries like the United States, it lost some of those powerful aspects, but he’s here bringing it back.
Montaigue says, “We train hard. We train punching and kicking. We train with two person works, but still we don’t negate that concept of what most people think of being tai chi with the slow meditative stuff.”
If you don’t believe the hype, the Park’s Martial Arts studio is opening its doors for visitors to check it out. We’re told they’ll be there practicing all weekend.
