Slow Start Haunts Bennett In Opening Round Loss

The season came to an end for the James M. Bennett baseball team on Saturday when the Clippers fell to Northeast 6-4 in an upset. Bennett fell behind 4-0 early, and could never overcome the deficit.

The Eagles would show patience in the first two innings, getting several runners on base from walks and single to eventually push 4 runs across. That’s when Bennett would finally make their move. They would get a walk and a single to get runners on the corners. Bennett would then get their first run of the game off a Charlie Kerrigan RBI single to left to score Hunter White. Northeast’s pitcher would then be called for a balk that allowed Matt Chrystome to score. The Clippers would cap off a 3 run inning with a RBI infield single from Joey Geary.

Northeast would respond though. They would add a run off a pass ball, as well as another off RBI fielders choice to stretch their lead to 6-3 by the 5th. Again, the Clippers would respond and Cade Rousseau would steal home off a pass ball to get his team back within one. But the story of the game was Eagles pitchers Tyler Green. The sophomore was on top of his game all afternoon, and finished with 12 strike outs as he would go the distance and close the door on a Bennett comeback.
