Six In The 6th Lifts Cape To Road Win At Tech

The Cape Henlopen baseball team picked up a conference road win Monday when they traveled to Sussex Tech and earned a 7-3 win. The win improves the Vikings to 9-3, while the loss drops the Ravens to 9-6.
The Vikings would take the early lead, plating a run in the top of the 1st before both pitchers would settle in. Tech would fight their way back to tie up the game in the bottom of the 3rd after Trent Hearn was able to take home off a pass ball. The teams would be remained tied going into the 5th where it looked like Cape was about to break through. The Vikings would work the bases loaded with 1 out, but Luke Oliphant would induce a ground ball to short that the Ravens would use to turn a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning unharmed. But they could only slow Cape’s offense for so long. The Vikings would work the bases loaded again in the 6th, drawing a bases loaded walk twice before getting RBI base knocks from Noah Clifton and Zach Gelof. They would plate 6 runs in the inning to open up a big lead. The Ravens would make it interesting in the bottom of the 7th, scoring a pair of runs, while bringing the game tying run to the plate. But a deep fly out to right would end the game.
Cape Henlopen returns to action Tuesday when they travel to play Indian River, while Sussex Tech host Polytech on Tuesday.
