Sen. Carper participates in “Behind the Bar” at local Starbucks

Senator Tom Carper visited a local Starbucks in Dover on Friday to participate in an event called “Behind the Bar”.
The Dover location isn’t just any normal coffee house, it’s a military family store, meaning most of its employees are directly military related. This is done so that those who are either in the military, a veteran or a spouse of a service member, are given an opportunity to work.
Store manager Erika Endlein tells 47 ABC her store is the 13th location in the country to participate. Endlein spoke about the opportunities for vets and the chance to meet Senator Carper.
Endlein tells 47 ABC, “We’re always trying to hire try and bring them on because they add so much enthusiasm strength and partnership to our store team. It’s been a great opportunity, it’s been a great chance to meet him and to meet someone who’s a strong leader in the community.”
Starbucks says by 2018, they want to hire 10,000 military partners spouses, vets, or those who are currently serving. Endlein says Military spouses have at least a 14% unemployment rate and they want to decrease that rate to 2% by 2018. Right now at the Dover location, they have 8 military spouses working.
