Sen. Bonini: Need to incentivize retirement to save

Senator Bonini told 47 ABC that he’ll soon be introducing legislation that would incentivize early retirement for state employees. The incentive comes from retirement credits.
For example, we’re told if you worked for the state for 27 years, you’d receive credit for 30. In the end this would apparently save tax payers money in the state budget.
We’re told legislation he’s working on would allow the state reduce costs without laying off state workers or cutting services. He tells us that savings within the first year wouldn’t be too drastic. But down the line he says they would significantly increase.
“We’re one of the most expensive states in the country, per person,” said Sen. Bonini, (R) – Dover South. “It is just not sustainable so we have to reduce our costs, but need to do that in a humane way. We don’t want to lay people off, dramatically cut services, those kind of things.”
Bonini says this legislation will be introduced within the next few weeks.
