Pretrial hearing held in alleged antifreeze killing

(AP) – A Kent County judge has met with attorneys in the case of a Smyrna woman charged with killing her husband by lacing his steroid injections with antifreeze.

Monday’s conference involved scheduling for materials to be turned over to the defense in the prosecution of Jamie Baker, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 42-year-old James Baker. A trial is scheduled for October.
    
James Baker, a competitive weightlifter, died in September 2013. Authorities have said an autopsy revealed that ethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze, was in his system.
    
Jamie Baker reportedly told officers she had used a hypodermic syringe to extract antifreeze from a bottle and injected it into her husband’s bottles of liquid steroids.
    
Jamie Baker pleaded not guilty at her arraignment.
