Police: Officer in patrol car shoots man pointing weapon

Authorities say a Baltimore police officer sitting in his patrol car shot a man who pointed a weapon at the officer.

Media outlets report that Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said that an officer was doing paperwork in his patrol car Sunday when he noticed a man pointing a gun at him. Davis said the officer fired his weapon through the car window, striking the man multiple times.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. They say the man’s 9 mm handgun was not loaded.

The officer was not injured.

Davis said the authorities believe the incident may have been an attempted “suicide by cop.”
