One injured in serious crash outside of Lewes

Members of the Delaware State Police are investigating what caused a serious single vehicle crash which occurred last night, about five miles west of Lewes.
According to State Troopers, the crash occurred ust before 9:00 PM on Friday. Authorities say Troy Maull, 51, of Lewes, was operating a 2006 Buick Lucerne and was traveling in an eastbound direction on Fisher Road approaching the intersection of Hopkins Road.
Police say for reasons unknown, Maull lost control of the Buick and exited the north side of the roadway, striking a concrete culvert. At that point, investigators say the car then became airborne and struck a utility pole and phone box. The car then re-entered the roadway and overturned, which police say ejected Maull from the vehicle.
Troopers say Maull was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was reportedly treated at the scene by Sussex County Paramedics, then transported to the Beebe Medical Center before being airlifted to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where police say he was admitted in critical condition.
Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has assumed the investigation, and alcohol is being considered as a contributing factor in this crash.
State Police say the intersection of Fisher Road and Hopkins Road was closed for approximately 3 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
