NASCAR race could bring in millions to city of Dover

Traffic isn’t the only thing being affected by the 2016 NASCAR race series in Dover this weekend, the local economy is too.
According to Dover’s Chamber of Commerce, the city brought in between $14 and $16 million during NASCAR’s last race. The money was flowing in through all sorts of avenues like hotel and motel stays, and lots of adult beverage purchases.
Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen says, “We want to hold at that figure. We would really like to see it grow. It was larger in the past you know when the races were at full capacity. I’m sure as the business model for NASCAR changes, I’m sure those figures will go up eventually.”
The first event at the race is scheduled to start Friday at 5:30 p.m.
