Lewes woman tries to shoplift, flee scene while intoxicated

Rehoboth Beach Police have arrested a 54 year old Lewes woman after they say she fled a store by car when confronted by a manager for shoplifting. Donna Connelly was arrested by police Friday night after witnesses identified Connelly’s car as the one fleeing from the Loungin’ Lizard clothing store.

A store manager told police he confronted Connelly, who was hiding merchandise in a large purse.  She then reportedly fled the scene by car, almost hitting the manager who jumped out of the way whule pursuing Connelly.

Witnesses were able to give a description of Connelly’s car including the registration.  Police waited at her house where they took her into custody back to the police department where she failed a sobriety test.

Connelly is being charged with a felony in this case, being the fourth offense DUI, other charges she faces include shoplifting, and driving while licenses suspended/revoked.
