Laurel man arrested for 6th DUI

Francis Wiers, 52

Members of the Laurel Police Department say they arrested Francis Wiers, 52, of Laurel, for his sixth Offense Felony DUI charge.

According to Laurel PD, officers were dispatched to a report of a property damage crash along Route 13. Police say Wiers failed to slow in time and struck the rear of another vehicle in the northbound side of the roadway. Upon contact, police say they could see Wiers was extremely intoxicated.

When Wiers did not pass the field sobriety tests he was issued, police say he was placed under arrest for further processing.

According to police, investigators found Wiers had five prior Felony DUI’s, and he was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $12,000.00 cash bond.

Police say Wiers has been charged with felony DUI, Inattentive Driving, and Not Having his License In Possession.
