Lake Forest softball knocks out Sussex Central

The Lake Forest Spartans softball team avenged a regular season loss on Saturday afternoon, defeating Sussex Central 7-5 in Georgetown.

Brooke Glanden had a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to give her team the early lead. Karleigh Warren would get Central the lead back, dropping a 2-run single into left to give the Knights the 3-2 lead.

Lake would take the lead in the fifth inning, when Mya Maddox stepped to the plate and blasted a hard shot into center. An error on the part of Central would allow Lake to clear the bases with all three runners scoring and the Spartans retaking a 5-3 lead. Glanden would then add her second homer of the game in the top of the 6th to extend that lead.

A Morgan Burton two-run homerun would give Lake Forest a scare in the bottom of the 7th, but starting pitcher Kaitlyn Stahre would buckle down and strikeout the final batter of the game.

Lake Forest advances to round two, where they will take on Concord on Tuesday.
