Jury selected for former assistant principal’s sexual abuse case

In Sussex County, a jury has been selected in the trial of Edward Husbands. The former elementary school assistant principal is facing sexual abuse charges for apparently inappropriately touching three young girls.

Edward Husbands is no longer the assistant principal at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School in Milford. However, he was at the time of his arrest last year.

He was put behind bars for what police are calling illegal “sexual contact” with three girls under the age of thirteen.

The alleged crimes that date back to December of 2014 were reported to police by the family of one of the victims. She was 10-years-old at the time.

The victim claimed to have been inappropriately touched by her friend’s father at his home in Milton. According to the police report, that 10-year-old and two other female victims were spending the night at Husbands.

Since court documents are currently sealed, there are still no details available about the 2 other accusers. Milford School officials say the allegations against their former assistant principal happened outside the district and none of the children that attended Benjamin Banneker Elementary were involved.

Husbands’ trial is set to start Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. He’s facing a number of charges including two counts of unlawful sexual contact with a person less than 13 years of age, one count of attempted sexual contact with a person less than 13 years of age, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
