Jags Stun Top Seeded Warriors In Extras

The Washington baseball team pulled off a huge upset in the second round of the state tournament on Monday, when they traveled and beat top seeded Mardela 13-12 in 8 innings. The Jaguars scored the go-ahead run in extras off a bases loaded walk by Jimmy Mansfield.
The Jaguars would jump out to a huge early lead. Washington would draw 7 walks in the 3rd inning alone as they would go out in front 9-2. The Jags ability to work the count played in their favor all day, as they drew 15 walks, and had 2 hit batters. The lead wouldn’t last though, as Mardela’s bats came alive. They would get a three RBI double from Dylan Smith that plated Cole Lambrose, Hunter Niblett and Nathan Harper to give the Warriors a 10-9 lead. Then it would be the Jags turn to respond. They would tie the game after Eric Logan would score on a pass ball. Then Caleb Walston would hit a 2 RBI single to left to put Washington back out in front 12-10. The Jags were 3 outs away from the upset, but the Warriors weren’t ready to go away just yet. A walk and a error would get runners on 1st and 2nd. The Jags would then force a pop up and deep fly out to get 2 down. Runners would advance to scoring position before Smith would come up huge again, with another 2 RBI double to left to tie up the game. We would head to extras were again, the Jags would show their patience at the plate. The first batter would be hit, before they drew a walk and a single to get the bases loaded, no out. Mardela would draw a fielders choice and get the runner at home for the first out, before a infield fly would give them out number two. That’s when Mansfield stepped to the plate, and showed discipline as he drew the walk to bring in the go-ahead run. Julius White who came in on relief would then get 2 outs before the tying run would get on 2nd. HE would then draw a slow roller to 2nd for the final out of the game.
