House Bill 1344 signed into law

House Bill 1344 in Maryland was signed by Governor Larry Hogan Tuesday morning.
The bill requires a question be put on the ballot in Queen Anne’s county during the November election. That question is meant to get a feel from voters on whether changes need to be made as to how the Queen Anne’s county board of county commissioners is elected.
Currently, commissioners are elected with four having to be from one of the four voting districts and the fifth being at large. Officials say the vote is essentially a straw poll to see if voters would rather keep the current system or possibly institute a new method of only allowing the voters from each district to vote for their specific district.
Officials tell 47 ABC, this question is non binding, meaning that if the people of Queen Anne’s county vote this november that they would like to see a change lawmakers would not be required to act on it.
