Homeowner shoots burglar during break in

Dover police say a man was shot while breaking into a house on the 900 block of Janeka Lane.  According to a police report, the homeowner heard loud banging on his door just before 3AM.  Officials say he then went to investigate the noise, armed with a handgun.

The Dover PD says the homeowner’s investigation lead him to the front door, where the banging was coming from.  The burglar, later identified as 24 year old Caleb Mason, then reportedly tried to gain entry by breaking a window, and kicking down the door.

That is when police say the homeowner opened fire, letting off 2 shots and striking Mason in the hip.  Mason, of the 3000 block of White Oak Rd, was taking to Kent General and treated for his injuries. Police say he is facing charges of 2nd Degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief.
