Grant paves the way for new Diakonia box truck

25 area non-profits are each getting a piece of $90,000 in grant money from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.

From swimming lessons to program aides, the maximum $5,000 grants were awarded across the lower shore. One organization that benefited, Diakonia in Ocean City, was able to purchase a box truck with the grant. We’re told the funding covered a quarter of the cost and will provide a big boost in operations.

“For years now we’ve been relying on the generosity of volunteers to use their own vehicles and help us to pick up.” Said Executive Director Claudia Neagle. “This allows us to pick that food up and get that back to Diakonia so that we can then turn around and distribute it to our food pantry.”

We’re told the focus at Diakonia will now shift toward managing growth a so-called good problem to have.
