Governor Markell supports syringe exchange legislation

Delaware Governor Jack Markell has announced his support for a bill that would allow the Division of Public Health to expand the Syringe Exchange Program statewide.
We’re told the goal of the legislation is to reduce the sharing of potentially infected needles and assist in the state’s efforts to lower HIV transmission and opioid addiction.
This program was created as a pilot in Wilmington in 2007. With this legislation, it will no longer be limited to the city and can be used in areas in need throughout the state.
The bill is currently in committee.
