Fire at Celtic Pub in Smyrna ruled accidental

A restaurant fire in Smyrna, has been ruled as accidental. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire at The Celtic Pub on Jimmy Drive, was reported around 9:40 AM on Thursday.

Crews from the Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna responded, and found the flames contained to the kitchen area, after the building’s fire suppression system had activated.

Officials say the remaining fire was quickly put out by firefighters, and brought under control by 10:08 AM. Deputy State Fire Marshals say they investigated the fire, and found that it was started by combustible materials placed too close to the operating hot water heater.

Only employees were in the building at the time of the fire, and apparently discovered the fire at the same time the building’s fire alarm system activated. Officials say no injuries were reported, and damages are estimated at $7,500.
